Caitlin Callahan's Big Day At The Plate Leads Softball To Two More Wins

(vs. Ursuline) / (vs. Saint Benedict)

Senior Caitlin Callahan (Franklin Square, NY) clubbed three hits in each game and provided the heroics in game two for Widener, which notched a 3-0 win over Ursuline and a 6-5 come-from-behind triumph over Saint Benedict in Kissimmee, FL.

 

Widener (5-3) in the opener plated all of its runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Senior Steph Connolly (Aston, PA) had an RBI double and junior Astyn DiNorscia (Parkersburg, PA) added a two-run double.

 

Callahan went 3-for-3, freshman Shelby Mackintosh (Lumberton, NJ) posted a 2-for-2 day and Connolly ended with two hits.

 

Philadelphia, PA freshman Liz Carpino (2-0) permitted just one walk and two hits over three relief innings with three strikeouts.

 

The Pride rallied from down 4-0 in the nightcap for their third straight win and fifth in the last six outings.  Callahan came through with the go-ahead single in the top of the sixth, plating senior Jamie Schmucker (Holmes, PA) for the final.

 

Callahan ended the game with three RBI, senior Lauren Brubaker (Newtown Square, PA) has three hits and junior Meg Phillips (Aston, PA) contributed two RBI.

 

Parker Ford, PA junior Kelsey Shultz (3-1) got her third straight win, one short of her career best.

 

Widener on Thursday visits defending NCAA champion Messiah for a doubleheader, beginning at 2:30 pm in Grantham, PA.
